The abolition of slavery in Mauritius.

Post by Mir@ndA on Thu Jan 31, 2008 8:38 pm

"Some 27 million people are still subjected to different forms of slavery. There is now trafficking in humans, which is the current form of slavery," Kofi Annan said.

Since the year 2000 we are celebrating the abolition of slavery in Mauritius. What do you think of the issue of slavery? It is over yet in our country and in the world?

In the world there's still slavery... but for Mauritius as well, there's a new form of slavery... paid slavery - Chinese & Indian workers. Neutral

Yeah Carrotmadman is right! We see that everyday, cheap labour is the modern form of slavery. Even some bureaucrats are considered slaves to their employees.

It's good that we are celebrating that, but i wonder why we took so long to call it a public holiday.
