Velvet Revolver Plan Next Album (Updated)

Post by slasher on Thu Jan 24, 2008 5:16 pm

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash says the group is planning a significantly shorter turnaround for its third album.

Slash
tells Billboard.com that the group plans to start working in earnest on
the follow-up to last year's "Libertad" in April, almost immediately
after the quintet finishes a tour that starts Jan. 24 in Chicago and
includes dates in North America, Australia and Europe.

"That's the big thing right now," Slash says. "I'm
really jazzed about doing it. I've been working on new ideas, and we've
had a couple times where the guys all got together and worked on some
stuff. I'm itching to see what this third record's gonna be, 'cause I
think it's gonna be fuckin' awesome, and I think we don't necessarily
need to spend two years on the road like we did last time (for 2004's
'Contraband').
"
Slash adds that he's "not gonna go so far as to say, 'Yeah, we've got a couple of new songs done,'" but he says there are arrangements and ideas in place that he thinks will come together in short order. "As
you go along you've got more and more freedom and are less inhibited to
do whatever you want, just for the simple fact you've been working
together for as long as you have, and you've established a certain
creative relationship," he explains. "Wherever we're at (now) is
definitely far and away beyond where we were a year ago, and we're
gonna go explore that.
"

No producer has been chosen for the project, but Slash says he favors "Libertad"
collaborator Brendan O'Brien. And while the Velvet Revolver album is on
the front-burner, Slash still wants to move forward on a solo album,
which he says will feature a roster of guest vocalist.

"The only progress is I'm starting to put it together as to how I'm gonna do it and who I'm gonna do it with," he says. "It's
actually really in the back of my mind, but I haven't gotten the wheels
in motion to get it produced. It'll be coming -- probably the next
thing I do after the next Velvet Revolver record. But if anything
delays the Velvet record, I would turn around and do that (solo album)
then.
"

Hope the new one is not too bluesy. scratch And they kick out their singer lol 2

Re: Velvet Revolver Plan Next Album (Updated)

I think that for the first time God granted my wish yahoo!

It appears that a Stone Temple Pilots reunion in 2008 is not just
rumor, but it's inevitable. On January 20th of 2008, lead vocalist
Scott Weiland told the Miami Herald at a charity event in South Beach,
Miami that Stone Temple Pilots fans "should be on the lookout for a STP
reunion in the coming months."

The rumor of a STP reunion had
been circulating for some time since reported tensions in Velvet
Revolver rose up again, which also coincided with Scott Weiland
reconciling with Robert and Dean Deleo, who were also principle
songwriters with Stone Temple Pilots. Stone Temple Pilots broke through
in 1992 with the release of their debut album 'Core' which has since
gone 8 times Platinum on the strength of the hit single 'Plush.' Stone
Temple Pilots released their last full length studio album 'Shangri-La
Dee Da' in 2001 and the band's fans have been left wondering if Scott
and the Deleo brothers could ever patch things up.

While
Weiland went on to form Velvet Revolver with former members of Guns N
Roses and the Deleo brothers went on to release an album under the name
Army of Anyone, it seems STP fans can finally get excited about the
inevitable. We caught up with Robert Deleo recently at an Army of
Anyone show to find out how he feels about Stone Temple Pilots long
list of accomplishments and if there were any hard feelings between him
and Weiland.

Deleo Proud Of Stone Temple Pilots Accomplishments

"You
know, I haven't seen Scott in awhile. I wish him the best and there's
no hard feelings at all. We just kind of moved on and I'm very proud of
what we did."

In 2006 Scott Weiland was asked if he could see
a Stone Temple Pilots reunion in the future and he stated "the only
thing that's left unfinished is the completion of the story. If all the
planets lined up, you never know what might happen one day," implying
that the end of the bands story had yet to be written. Recently,
current Velvet Revolver and former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash, who is
currently working on a solo album, mentioned a Guns N Roses and Stone
Temple Pilots reunion tour wouldn't be impossible to put together.
Although anything that would involve Axl Rose certainly wouldn't be
easy to make possible. Look for Stone Temple Pilots to confirm their
plans for 2008 in the coming months.

Classic Rock just tracked down Duff McKagan, Velvet Revolver bassist,
and quizzed him about VR singer Scott Weiland's recent 'antics'.

Here's what Duff had to say:

On the Sundance Festival:
ďI
sang Itís So Easy and I Wanna Be Your Dog and then we were panicking a
bit over what to play so Matt [Sorum] got up and sang Patience, Mattís
a great singer, he really is. Why wasnít Scott there? Scott missed his
plane, yeah, letís say that, Scott missed his planeÖĒ

On Stone Temple Pilots re-forming:
ďThatís
the rumour that Iíve heard too, good for him. You canít plan ahead in
this thing and if you do youíre going to be disappointed. Donít get me
wrong, I love playing live and we love this band, but I donít have
expectations any more. This is a great band and Iím proud to be a part
of it, but it doesnít define me any more.Ē

Stay tuned for further developments.
