We no longer live in a democratic country. I am convinced if we would have still been in the reign of the British or French Colony we would have lived a better life.

Nah, that would be the worst thing that could have happened... (imagine Reunion Island!)

I don't think that democratically we would have been any better had we been English or French "colonies". Culturally we would have remained Mauritians with all our origins and behavior. And I think that independence for a country is crucial. Granted we might have had some advantages by being overseas British or French citizen like the almost free access to universities etc... but these are minor advantages compared to the mighty advantages derived from independence.

Another thing is, the media does not have that much power in Mauritius. Journalists are afraid of politicians while in other countries it's the other way round. In our country, televised press conferences are most of the time a one-man show of the PM. If the media had more power, I think we would have been closer to an acceptable level of democracy. But still, this incident about the arrest of the journalists has had some impact, which is a nice thing.

What we could use here is Citizen Journalism. I think that would bring some new life to our already politically-bogged-down press.. Razz

Sorry, but honestly, being a doctor is at an advantage. Money rules the world. We need something to eat, we need to pay. With being a doctor, it is like having a funnel in our pocket.

And, the country is sick. There are all kinds of dirty stuffs happening. Politics is like, um meant to ruin people's life. We can't deny the fact. What about, the GM having the upper-hand on food imports and all. Let consider Britain or France. Clean politics and the country is "always" in harmony.

There would have got many progresses today if and only if we would have been under the british or france colony.(mone fini discute sa avek ene prof language :p. He is for this point)

Btw, do you think you have the same skills as your father. If he was real good, will you be as real good as him? The chances are small. Consider it in case of politics. There will be No second Sir Aneerood Jugnauth, No Secong Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.

My opinions is based on politics. Think about it. Everything merges at that only point.
